Do you use CF Studio or HomeSite+? Do you use CVS? Did you know that you can use CVS within CFStudio and HomeSite+ without setting anything up in CFStudio/HomeSite+? I didn’t until recently when I stumbled across it.
The trick is if you use TortoiseCVS as your CVS client and it integrates itself with the windows explorer shell. CFStudio and HomeSite+ use the same explorer control to display a list of folders. When you right click on a CVS controlled folder CFStudio and HomeSite+ will give you full access to the CVS commands.
Very nice no-hassle feature. This also works with PrimalScript. Doesn’t work with Dreamweaver since DW uses it’s own custom folder list control.
Hi,
This is actually not support of CVS, as you see the colors of file names changed in Microsoft SourceSafe. The CVS folder does not provide any information. so don’t say it the support for CVS in CF studio or HomeSite. When ever we need to check the files which we have changed , we have to go that folder so see the Red Color files name which we have modified.the check in/out is common feature of source Control which is not available in CFstudio for CVS.
So don’t say that there is support for CVS
Hi Sana,
Thanks for your comments. While you have a valid point that it is not complete support in that there is no indication of status and no per-file actions, it certainly is partial support and has been all the support we need.
With this technique we can update our files and commit our changes. That covers at least 95% of what you do with CVS.
When you need to check a history or status, it’s easy enough to right click on the folder and hit “Open” to open in explorer and access CVS that way.
Best regards,
Sam
Sam,
Thanks for this tip! One other way I use CVS with Homesite + (or Studio) is via projects. Projects let you use any SCC compatible change management system. There isn’t native support for CVS. However, I was able to hook Homesite + into my CVS repository using a free connector called Jalindi Igloo.
With the connector, Homesite + can connect to CVS from within a configured project, allowing you to “check out” a document, work on it within the IDE, and check it back in.
I just checked and the behavior is the same with TopStyle. TopStyle is an HTML/CSS editor from the original author of HomeSite. http://www.bradsoft.com/topstyle/
People always talk about HomeSite+ as if it is a seperate program, I have never found a way to run it without running DWMX04. I would love for the code view part of DW to be able to run standalone – and I’m thinking that this is HomeSite+
Dreamweaver is great for development, but when I want to do some quick hand-coded editting I want a editor that opens faster and isn’t full of stuff I’m not like to use. However I would like some level of DW project integration and obviously the same syntax colouring schemes. HomeSite 5.5 is crap for me who uses DWMX04 50% of the time.
